Creating a Welcoming Space: An Access Pack for Neurodivergent Performers
Is your venue fully inclusive and a welcoming environment for all performing arts creatives? Our new access pack is designed to provide you with essential information and resources to help neurodivergent individuals navigate your venue with ease and confidence.
Why is an access pack important?
For neurodivergent individuals, attending a performing arts venue can sometimes be overwhelming or challenging. Our access pack aims to address these challenges by providing clear information about access based on the lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals. By understanding the unique perspectives and needs of neurodivergent performers, the access pack can help to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment. The access pack includes:
- Location : exact location, three little words, etc
- Access and exit : information on how to enter and exit the building
- Layout : photographs of the inside and outside of the building, highlighting key areas such as entrance, performance spaces, etc
- Staff : photographs of key staff who are likely to be encountered
- Spaces : description of key spaces, including rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, common areas
- Quiet spaces : identification of quiet spaces within the venue where individuals can go to, if needed
Raising awareness of neurodivergence
By implementing the strategies and resources in our access pack, you can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all individuals, regardless of their neurodiversity. Use of the access pack also helps to raise awareness of neurodivergence and the importance of inclusion within your sector.
Spotlight adopts our access pack for their studios
Spotlight, the home of casting, is the first in the country to roll out the access pack across their studios. The pack is available on Spotlight’s website, accessible to both performers and casting professionals. This empowers casting directors and agents to find neurodivergent-friendly spaces and cater to the needs of neurodivergent performers.
